Overview:

On July 22, 2015, Metropolitan Psychological Corporation (MPC) will be holding its second talk for 2015 entitled, “Self-Injurious Behaviors among Adolescents: Assessment and Interventions” with Dr. Ma. Teresa “Dido” Gustilo-Villasor, Ph.D., RP, RPm.

This event will be held at Room 206 of the Ateneo Professional Schools – Ateneo de Manila University in 20 Rockwell Drive, Rockwell Center, Makati City from 9 AM – 12 NN (Wednesday).

“Self-Injurious Behaviors among Adolescents: Assessment and Interventions” is accredited by the Psychological Association of the Philippines (PAP) to issue Continuing Professional Education (CPE) units.

In the past few years, a relatively new phenomenon among adolescents (majority female) has become an increasing concern for parents, teachers, counselors and school administrators, physicians. Known as Self-injurious behaviors (SIB) or (cutting/slashing) are deliberate, repetitive acts of injuring one’s body as a way to cope with overwhelming feelings and thoughts.

This presentation will provide evidenced based research and clinical vignettes to better illustrate self-injurious behavior (SIB) in the light of adolescent developmental concerns (physical, emotional, mental, social [cultural]). Objective evaluation, diagnostic procedures, and currently available treatment interventions will likewise be discussed.

Join Dr. Ma. Teresa Gustilo-Villasor, Ph.D., RP, RPm as she touches on this new phenomenon entitled, “Self-Injurious Behaviors among Adolescents: Assessment and Interventions.”

Today’s conditions present challenges that can impact life and lead to physical, mental and emotional changes. The subject of this presentation is understanding the positive and negative effects of stress on the individual as he/she goes through life changes. Learn how to handle these transitional issues from the clinical psychology expert, Ma. Teresa “Dido” Gustilo-Villasor, Ph.D.
